VISAKHAPATNAM: An attempt to rough up the bridegroom and his family and kidnap the bride allegedly by her family to prevent their marriage was foiled by the city police on Saturday. Following an alert by a Telugu news channel, the police arrived in large numbers and prevented the ‘gang’ allegedly engaged by the parents of the bride from kidnapping the girl. Avinash, the bridegroom, is a software engineer. The parents of the bride Alekhya were allegedly against the marriage due to caste difference though the family of Avinash accepted the proposal. They were in love for the past five years. As both of them were majors, the One Town police took them to the registrar’s office and solemnised the marriage.
