Pratibha Patil thanks Karunanidhi

CHENNAI: The President-elect, Pratibha Patil, thanked Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi for his support in the Presidential election, on Saturday.

Mr. Karunanidhi congratulated Mrs. Patil for her victory.

Earlier, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi congratulated Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi following the election of Mrs. Patil. An official release said Mr. Karunanidhi thanked and extended greetings to them. The Chief Minister also accepted Dr. Singh’s invitation to attend Ms. Patil’s swearing in ceremony in New Delhi on July 25. In a separate statement, Mr. Karunanidhi said the victory of Ms. Patil marked a magnificent triumph of women. As for the Vice-President’s election, he said the DMK would back the official UPA-Left Front nominee, Hamid Ansari. He said he would leave for New Delhi on July 24 to attend the swearing in ceremony.
