Day One: 1.7 lakh copies in India
New Delhi: Some 1.7 lakh copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows were sold in India on Saturday, marking a record.
“Never in publishing history has India witnessed such a frenzied reaction to any book,” said Himali Sodhi, Head of Marketing, Penguin, the distributor in India.
Potter fans young and old queued up outside book stores since midnight. Bookstore owners said the demand level was unprecedented. “I have never seen such craze for any other book. We have been receiving pre-orders since March,” said Nitin Chatterjee, manager, Oxford Bookstore. — PTI
