Lalu dents NDA vote-bank
K. Balchand
PATNA: Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad dented the vote-bank of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), garnering additional support in Bihar for Pratibha Patil, successful Presidential candidate of the UPA-Left.
In the process, he laid bare the problems of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar from dissidents within his own Janata Dal (United) legislature party and MLAs belonging to the coalition partner, BJP.
As against their combined strength of 81, the UPA and the Left parties won the support of 89 legislators.
This was because Mr. Prasad secured the support of not only Independents who are supporting the ruling coalition but also those who are with the NDA.
