IRRS registers win

Madurai: Idayam Rajendran Residential School, Madurai registered a 59-44 victory over Saraswathy Anglo Vernacular HSS, Tuticorin in the semifinal round robin league of the 11th annual E.Rm.E. Rengasamy Memorial Trophy State-level inter-school basketball tournament at Alagarkoil on Saturday.

In the volleyball tournament, defending champion, Swamy Sivananda HSS, Coimbatore, Khajamian HSS, Tiruchi, American College HSS, Madurai and TVS HSS, Madurai entered the semifinal round robin league.

The results: Basketball (league): IRRS, Madurai 59 (Madhavan 31) bt SAV HSS, Tuticorin 44 (Mari Sundara Selvam 18); St. John’s MHSS, Aranthangi 89 (Arun Prasath 21, Ayyappan 18) bt St. Mary’s HSS, Madurai 67 (Arul Jenifer 3 0).

Quarterfinals: St. John’s MHSS, Aranthangi 70 (Arun Prasath 19, Ayyappan 15) bt St. Britto HSS 62 (Tamil Selvan 15); IRRS w/o Swamy Sivananda HSS; SAV HSS w/o AC HSS, Madurai.

PLWA & Nadukallur school shine

PLWA Higher Secondary School, Vickramasingapuram emerged winner in all the three categories in the boys’ section, while Government HSS, Nadukallur won all the three categories in the girls’ section in the Cheran Mahadevi divisional inter-panchayat union hockey league for the Sara Trophy, organised by SDAT and Tirunelveli DHA at various rural centres on Friday.

Chirag’s five-wicket haul, including a hat-trick, helped Mookambigai College of Engineering score a 18-run win over ARJ College of Engineering and enter the quarterfinals of the Anna University inter-collegiate (zone VIII) cricket tournament in Tiruchi on Saturday.
