Bopanna stuns Qureshi

NEW DELHI: Rohan Bopanna knocked out the second-seeded Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the $25,000 Challenger tennis grass court tournament at Manchester on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the third-seeded Bopanna and Qureshi made the doubles final with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Andrew Coelho and Adam Feeney of Australia.

The Indo-Pak duo that had won a Challenger doubles title together at Denver in 2003 will face Jesse Huta Galung of the Netherlands and Michael Ryderstedt of Sweden in the final.

Prakash in semifinals

Wild card Prakash Amritraj continued his bright run and made the semifinals of the $75,000 Aptos Challenger tennis tournament in California with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 victory over the fifth-seeded Bruno Echagaray of Mexico.

The 23-year-old Indian Davis Cupper will meet the 18-year-old Donald Young of the U.S. in the semifinals.

Alex Bogomolov and Bobby Reynolds of the U.S. were the other two semifinalists, figuring in the bottom half of the draw.
