“The functioning of the Department of Higher Education lacks total transparency”
TIRUNELVELI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi should order a high-level probe into non-filling up of vacancies in the Directorate of Collegiate Education and the confusion prevailing over the transfer of college teachers, Pattali Makkal Katchi founder S. Ramadoss said.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Dr. Ramadoss said the Department of Higher Education had kept six key positions in the Directorate of Collegiate Education vacant for the past several months.
Several teaching vacancies in colleges were not made public when teachers opted for transfer, which led to protests, including road roko in Madurai.
“The functioning of the Department of Higher Education lacks total transparency,” he said.
Dr. Ramadoss also criticised the Department of Higher Education for failing to stop the collection of compulsory donation in colleges. Dr. Ramadoss thanked the Chief Minister for initiating steps to stop the setting up of retail shops by multinational companies and domestic giants in Tamil Nadu, move to start government-run cable TV services and for cancelling the recently held cooperative elections.
