Coimbatore: The National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) organised a sensitisation programme here recently for bankers on the self help group programme. Inaugurating the programme, the Collector, Neeraj Mittal, said the bank should support and focus on labour saving devices in agriculture since the district faced shortage of agricultural workers. He said that NABARD should ensure credit flow in supporting such devices. He also urged the self help groups to conduct weekly and monthly meetings regularly and come out with good project proposals that would be supported by banks. The Assistant General Manager of Canara Bank, S. Arumugam, said that NABARD had contributed greatly to agricultural lending and rural infrastructure. The programme was organised as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of the bank, according to a release from V. Suresh, Assistant General Manager (District Development) of the NABARD.
