Auto LPG station on Tiruchi road shortly

Coimbatore: Auto LPG dispensing station of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) on Tiruchi Road, Singanallur, is likely to be commissioned by week. The trial filling of auto LPG fuel was done on Saturday. This is the second Auto LPG dispensing station in the city and Bharat Petroleum Corporation had recently commissioned its LPG dispensing station on Mettuppalayam Road. According to IOC sources, the facility at Shanti Service Centre Petrol Bunk (near Shanti Gears) is equipped with a bullet (container) that could accommodate 8,500 litres of auto LPG at any given time. The refill supply could be done either by Chennai Petroleum or by Indian Oil from its Kinathukkadavu plant.

Owing to the skyrocketing price of petrol, more vehicle owners went in for conversion kits to use LPG as fuel.

In the absence of auto LPG dispensing stations, there was rampant misuse of subsidised domestic LPG cylinders by vehicle owners.

These vehicles besides misusing the subsidised domestic LPG also resorted to the use of unsafe fuel conversion kits. The city is likely to get three more LPG stations with one each by Indian Oil and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation at Ukkadam and another by Bharat Petroleum Corporation.

Sources also pointed out that in this region Salem already has one auto LPG station and similar stations are in the offing at Erode, Tirupur and one more at Salem. Sources pointed out that auto LPG was ideal as fuel since it was tested for less octane levels and it had only 88 octane. Officials also added that the price of a litre of LPG fuel (as on Saturday) was Rs 25.92 and it would give 90 per cent of the mileage given by any vehicle running on fuel. Compared to the petrol prices, the auto LPG would definitely work out cheaper.

Similarly, the auto LPG had very less butane level as against the domestic LPG and lesser the butane level it would be an ideal fuel with higher level of engine compatibility.
