More powers listed for transfer to local bodies

HYDERABAD: More powers and functions will be transferred to local bodies soon to make them sovereign at the local level as envisaged under the Constitutional amendments.

This will be in addition to the 10 powers and functions already transferred to them out of the 29 listed.Replying to a question raised by P. Nageswara Rao (CPI) in the Legislative Council on Monday, Panchayat Raj Minister J. C. Diwakar Reddy said discussions on transfer of the remaining powers and functions had reached a crucial stage. The Government would make an announcement in two weeks on their transfer.
