Shooting
NEW DELHI: Skeet marksmen have come in the line of fire following their poor performances in the World Cups so far. The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has omitted the skeet shooters from the World championship squad after the selection trials were held at the Karni Singh Ranges in Tughlakabad here. The World shotgun championship will be held in Cyprus from September 1 to 10 that will offer yet another opportunity for the marksmen to grab the Olympic quota. Asian championship in Kuwait in December will be the last chance for them to get a berth in the Beijing Olympics. While India already has taken up maximum two spots in the men’s trap event through Mansher Singh and Manavjit Singh Sandhu, the Olympic silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has qualified in double trap. Ronjan Sodhi, who missed the quota place by a whisker in the last two World Cups, will be on test in Cyprus. As skeet shooters offered no hope, the NRAI decided to ground them this time. Women shotgun shooters though have been offered yet another chance despite their equally bad performance. The team: Men: Trap: Manavjit Singh Sandhu, Mansher Singh and Zorawar Singh. Double trap: Ronjan Sodhi, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Vikram Chopra. Women: Trap: Shagun Chaudhary and Seema Tomar. Skeet: Aarti Singh. — Principal Correspondent
