Raitha Sangha to stage protest
Bangalore: The Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha has decided to lay siege to the Bangalore Rural District Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday demanding suitable compensation for farmers who had to part with land for the international airport at Devanahalli.
In a statement, Sangha president K.S. Puttannaiah, Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha president Devanoor Mahadeva, Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary G.N. Nagaraj and various Dalit organisations said farmers who were cultivating 2,800 acres of bagair hukum land had been evicted after land acquisition. Some of the farmers had got just Rs. 5 lakh as compensation. But, some other farmers had got Rs. 35 lakh. All the farmers should be given Rs. 35 lakh as compensation, they said. — Staff Reporter
