Door delivery of vegetables to be revived Vegetables will be supplied to customers at cheaper rates
GUNTUR: Guntur Agriculture Market Yard in association with Marketing Department will organise special counters in two Rythu Bazars in the city from Tuesday to sell essential commodities. The AMC proposes to experiment with selling vegetables in mobile vans in potential areas and was eagerly looking forward to the results of similar experiment in Visakhapatnam. Door delivery of vegetables, which had not become popular due to several reasons, would be revived with vigour and quality vegetables would be supplied to customers at cheaper rates. “To begin with we will sell onions at Rs.7 a kg; red gram (kandi pappu) at Rs.31; tomatoes at Rs.12 (at par with day’s wholesale price); seedless tamarind of GCC at Rs.24 a kg; and palmoil at Rs.45 a lit.” AMC chairman Lella Appireddy told reporters here on Monday. Directive
Rythu Bazars hitherto monitored and run by Civil Supplies Department had been handed over to Agriculture Market Yards and Department of Marketing would look after their maintenance as per the directive in the G.O. Rt. No. 437 Dt. April 19, he observed. Within the next few days such counters would be established at two more places in the city like Koritepadu and Arundelpet, where Rythu Bazars were not there, he added. The Marketing Department officials and AMC staff reviewed the functioning of the Rythu Bazars at a review meeting in Guntur on Monday. Marketing Department Deputy Director Rajasekhar and the AMC secretary M. Sivaramaiah were present on the occasion.
