Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan has ordered the detention of B. Purushottaman (42) of Pappanaickenpalayam under Goondas Act for one year.

The accused was involved in various cases of cheating people and extorting money from them.

He was arrested by the Ramanathapuram police on charges of snatching two blank cheque leaves from Senthil, employed in a textile mill in Ramanathapuram, at knife point in Krishnasamy Nagar area on July 12. Since he was frequently involved in cases of cheating, the Commissioner ordered his detention.

Found dead

The city police are probing into the death of Chinnakutty (55) here on Monday. His body was found under the railway bridge near Kikkani School with injuries on his face. Investigations are on to see whether the death was due to an accident or the body was thrown after murdering the victim.

It is learnt that the deceased hailed from Tirunelveli district and was working in a bar here.
