Young Indians’ gesture to city police

Coimbatore: The Young Indians of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) joined hands with the city police to supplement their efforts by donating 200 reflective jackets for policemen on duty at night and 100 litres of road-mark paints.

K. Thangaraj, Chairman of the CII (Coimbatore Zone) and Shankar Vanavarayar, Chair of the Young Indians, Coimbatore Chapter, handed over the materials to City Police Commissioner C.K. Gandhirajan here on Monday.

Thanking the Young Indians, Mr. Gandhirajan said that the police force was looking forward to the participation of such forums and associations of trade and industry for better policing initiatives.

He said that such forums could support the police in organising crime prevention patrols, drives besides traffic regulation so that the human resource in the force could be effectively used for core policing duties such as crime detection and law and order maintenance besides road rule enforcements.

The Commissioner released a poster on ‘Wear Your Helmet’. He said that rather than enforcing the rules, participatory approach and culture of compliance were the need of the hour in any civilised society.

V.Muthusamy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Crime Records Bureau, and Rohit Rajendran, Co-Chair of Young Indians also spoke.

The Commissioner also felicitated a team of 19 participants of the Inter-District Shooting Competitions held at Dindigul recently.

The team had bagged nine gold medals, 11 silver and 10 bronze medals.
