Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A sessions court here framed charges against Kanchi Sankaracharya Sri Jayendra Saraswathi and 10 others in the Radhakrishnan assault case.

When the matter came up before I Additional Sessions Judge Mohammed Issath Ali on Monday, all the 11 accused, including the Acharya, Sundaresa Iyer, Raghu and Appu, were present.

When charges were read out to each one of them separately, the Acharya said he was in no way connected to the alleged incident.

Mr. Iyer said the case had been foisted on him. Others denied the prosecution’s charges.

As all the accused pleaded not guilty, the Judge adjourned the matter to August 27 for commencement of trial.

The prosecutor told the court that he would file the memo on Tuesday.
