Relative gets permission to visit Haneef

MELBOURNE: Australian authorities on Monday cleared the way for a relative to visit Indian doctor Mohammad Haneef, who is in detention facing terror charges.

State and Federal authorities both cleared the way for Imran Siddiqui, who arrived in Brisbane on a flight from India on Saturday, to visit Haneef on Tuesday, ABC reported today.

Haneef’s lawyer Peter Russo on Monday said he initially had some trouble clearing the visit. “I think there was just an issue in relation to criminal history checks, because Imran comes from overseas.” — PTI
