It is alleged that majority of passes will be given to delegates attending centenary fete
MYSORE: Has “Mysore Utsava,” which seeks to provide four days of non-stop entertainment from July 26, been organised to entertain over 40,000 delegates who will come to the city to participate in the centenary celebrations of the cooperative movement? This is the apprehension among those opposing the “utsava.” The “utsava” is being held without any aid from the Government. A sum of Rs. 2.5 crore mobilised from private sponsors will be spent on the event being organised under the banner of the Mysore Samskruthika Kala Parishat. The event is being managed and marketed by TV House, according to Deepak Thammain, an anchor person with a private channel. Mysore district in-charge Minister G.T. Deve Gowda, at whose initiative the “utsava” is being organised, says that it is being organised on the lines of “Bangalore Habba.” His detractors claim that the “utsava” will hamper the prospects of the Dasara festivities. But according to convener of the “utsav” Thimmiah, there is no connection between the two. Mr. Gowda’s detractors allege that the “utsava” had been organised to coincide with the four-day centenary celebrations of the cooperative movement which will also commence from July 26 and end on 29. According to sources, over 40,000 delegates from 28 districts will participate in the event and the “utsava” is a part of the centenary celebrations. The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, Union Minister for Agriculture Sharad Pawar, Chief Minister, H.D. Kumaraswamy and Union Minister of State for Planning M.V. Rajashekaran, will be participating in the celebrations. Arrangements have been made to accommodate 150 dignitaries and over 40,000 delegates at Dasara Exhibition Grounds. An exhibition to showcase the achievements of the Cooperative Movement has also been arranged. According to sources, over 200 rooms have been booked for providing lodging to presidents and vice-presidents of district cooperative federations. It is alleged that majority of passes for the “utsava” will be given to delegates attending the centenary celebrations. Organisers are, however, planning to issue passes from July 25. Meanwhile, the Pratidhwani Students Youth Forum has convened a meeting at Nataraja Kalyana Manatapa to discuss strategies to oppose the “utsav.”
