Talks with farmers on relief fail

Staff Reporter

They point to lapses by the administration

Compensation amount has to be decided for 556 acres of land

The land is to be acquired for the aerospace cluster

BANGALORE: The meeting between the farmers of Devanahalli and the Bangalore Rural Deputy Commissioner Rangaswamy over compensation for the land to be acquired for the special economic zone to create the aerospace cluster failed on Monday.

During the meeting, the farmers raised certain lapses that had been committed by the administration after the acquisition procedure was initiated, and sought the response from the officials, including Mr. Rangaswamy and Muninarayanappa, Special Land Acquisition Officer of Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).

The Deputy Commissioner, in his capacity as Chairman of the Advisory Committee, had convened the meeting with farmers to decide on the compensation.

Farmers from Kavadadasanahalli, Baladimmanahalli, Battaramaranahalli, Jonnahalli and Bettakote villages in Chennarayapatna hobli of Devanahalli taluk in Bangalore Rural district had been invited for talks for deciding the compensation amount as 556 acres of land in these villages are sought to be acquired for the aerospace cluster that is coming up near the Bangalore International Airport at Devanahalli on a total area of 918 acres.

Raitha Horata Samithi Convener D.S. Gowda told The Hindu that various lapses committed since the preliminary notification was issued for acquiring land was brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner. “The KIADB issued no tification in papers for land acquisition two months after the gazette notification was issued. Without conducting joint measurement survey, the final notification has been issued in a hurried manner.”

Further, he said: “We want the administration to answer for all the lapses that have been committed. A meeting with the Chief Minister has also been sought and the compensation and land sharing package has to be fixed in that meeting.”
