Most of the schools, shops remained closed MLA blames poor policing for violence
Bangalore: Anekal town on the outskirts of the city, which witnessed violence on Sunday night following the murder of a Bharatiya Janata Party worker, remained incident-free on Monday even as a bandh was observed to protest against the killing. Alleging that Janata Dal (Secular) workers were behind the murder of Chikkannaiah, the BJP workers had gone on the rampage on Sunday night. Two buses were stoned and some shops were torched during the violence. Demanding the arrest of the Janata Dal (Secular) workers allegedly responsible for the murder of Chikkannaiah, an autorickshaw driver, the BJP had called for Anekal bandh on Monday. Most of the schools, shops, business establishments and industrial units in and around Anekal remained closed. The police ramped up security in the town by deploying additional forces. Kumar S. Karning, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bangalore Rural district, said that four persons had been arrested in connection with the murder and none of them were Janata Dal (Secular) workers. “Chikkannaiah was murdered because of personal rivalry and it has nothing to do with the activities of the two parties,” he said. Anekal MLA A. Narayanaswamy of the BJP pacified his party workers who turned restive while Chikkannaiah’s body was taken from the hospital to his residence after autopsy. MLA’s charge
Mr. Narayanaswamy has alleged that poor policing in the area has been contributing to lawlessness in Anekal and surrounding areas. Even some other leaders also blamed the negligence of the police for the murder.
