Demand to shift outlet from Malleswaram Outlet selling vegetables at far cheaper rate
BANGALORE: The Malleswaram New Market (Fruits Vegetables and Flowers) Merchants’ Association closed the market for a day on Monday and staged a demonstration in front of the Reliance Fresh Outlet on Sampige Road. They are demanding that the outlet be shifted as it had affected the business of more than 250 traders in the market and as many pushcart vendors ever since it opened three months ago. Protest
More than 100 traders, including women, held placards against the retail vegetable market chain and shouted slogans against it. Association Secretary B.S. Nataraj said the agitation would be intensified unless the outlet was shifted within a deadline to be served on the management soon. He said the outlet sold vegetables at far cheaper rate than HOPCOMS and consequently the new market customers were migrating to it. “They come to us only when they do not get what they want in the outlet. The fact that they come with the carry bags bearing the company’s symbol is proof of that,” Mr. Nataraj said.
