COMED-K students can opt for government seats

Students forfeiting seats to lose 10 per cent of the fees

COMED-K to hold special round of counselling for additional medical seats
Students can surrender seats allocated by the COMED-K till September 8

BANGALORE: Following the approval of government medical colleges by the Medical Council of India, the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) has decided to modify its rules to enable students to take seats in these colleges.

S. Kumar, executive secretary of the consortium, said that earlier the rules had stated that if a student forfeited his/her seat after the final round of counselling, s/he would lose the entire amount that had been paid.

“But now, after about 800 seats are available with the Karnataka Common Entrance Test Cell, we have decided that if a student gets a seat with the CET in the State, s/he can forfeit her seat with the COMED-K and lose only 10 per cent of the fee,” he said.

Students can forfeit their seats up to July 30.

Similarly, since the number of engineering seats available with the State had gone up, students could surrender their seats allocated by the COMED-K if they get a seat with the Karnataka CET, he said. The last date is September 8, Mr. Kumar said.

Counselling

The COMED-K will hold a special round of counselling for the additional medical seats that have been made available following a Central Government order. The counselling will take place on August 7 at NMKRV College in Jayanagar.

The Centre approved the restoration of more than 100 medical seats in the colleges at Gulbarga, Tumkur and Chitradurga, Mr. Kumar said.

On the directions of the N.R. Shetty Regulatory committee, students who have been allocated engineering or dental seats and want to shift to medical seats can take part in this round of counselling, he said.
