Rs. 54.50 crore allotted for development works

Krishnagiri: Development works to the tune of Rs. 54.50 crore are underway in Krishnagiri district under the Rural Infrastructure Development Programme with financial assistance from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development.

The works include construction of rural roads, bridges, irrigation structures, school buildings, check dams, primary health centres and veterinary centres, said the bank’s Assistant General Manager V. Thirumalai here on Tuesday. He was speaking at the Silver Jubilee celebration of the bank. He said that seven watershed programmes were being implemented in the district covering 3,300 hectares. Under the micro credit more than 900 Self-help group members had been trained in book keeping and maintenance of records.

Similarly about 390 members were given skill training on boquet making, bee keeping, bakery products, art and crafts and rainfed agriculture.

Financial assistance was given to the groups to set up micro enterprises. Under the Rural Entrepreneur Development Programme about 100 youth were trained on cultivation of cut flowers and cell phone repairs.

Mr. Thirumalai said that the bank had adopted Panganahalli, Thyagaranjanahalli, Uddanapalli, Basthalapalli and Chennapalli in Shoolagiri block as part of the Silver jubilee celebrations. The bank has sanctioned Rs. 8.91 lakh to Sharaz Farm Academy, Hosur, for an innovative project on conversion of mango peel waste into vermin-compost.
