Robberies at Eravipuram, Kottarakara and Paravur were also solved.

The police had also taken steps to bust the operations of the sand and hooch mafias in the district. As many as 1,230 lorries engaged in illegal sand-mining were taken into custody.

A total of 633 illicit liquor cases were registered and 24,971 litres of spirit, 799 litres of arrack, 24,457 litres of wash and 1,721 litres of hooch were seized. Fifteen vehicles engaged in illicit liquor transport were also seized.

Awareness initiative

The police took up activities to strictly enforce and create awareness of road rules. As many as 58,967 cases were registered for violation of traffic rules. Strong action was also initiated against anti-social activities. Two persons were detained under the goonda ordinance.

Community policing system began in the district at Thalavoor panchayat. More panchayats would soon be covered under the system, Mr. Ajithkumar said.
