THENI: A total of 170 special medical camps would be held in rural and urban areas in the district under the ‘Varumun Kaappom’ scheme this year, said Collector Har Sahay Meena.
He was addressing a coordination council meeting of the scheme at the Collectorate here on Monday.
The Health Department planned to conduct 162 camps in villages benefiting 1.45 lakh rural people and eight camps in urban areas covering 16,000 people.
All sophisticated equipment would be kept and medical experts deployed in each camp to offer advanced medical care to the patients.
Already, 52,944 persons were benefited and 1,783 persons recommended for advanced treatment through 45 camps held under this scheme so far.
Medicines worth Rs.5.16 lakh had been disbursed to patients through these camps.
Defects in the eyes of three children were detected at a medical camp held at Thevaram and Ernampatti.
They were treated in the Theni Government Medical College Hospital at Andipatti.
Mr. Meena appealed to people to utilise these camps to lead a health life.
