BSES plants trees for a green Delhi

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Doing its bit for expanding the Capital’s green cover, power distribution company BSES claims to have planted more than 2,000 trees as part of its annual “Vanmahotsav Week”. It claims to have planted more than 10,000 trees since July 2002.

BSES Chairman Lalit Jalan, who took part in the plantation drive at the Balaji SCADA Centre here on Tuesday, said: “According to some studies, trees can absorb carbon dioxide at the rate of 26 pounds per year, especially trees that are still growing. This Vanmahotsav is BSES’s way of contributing and spreading awareness towards the green cause.”

During the “Vanmahotsav Week”, hundreds of BSES employees joined hands to plant over 2,000 trees best suited to Delhi’s conditions and climate. These include neem, jamun, peepal, champa, kanair and bamboo.

, A BSES spokesperson said: “According to studies, a tree can be a natural air-conditioner.”
