BANGALORE: The State Government is planning to urge President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to settle in Bangalore as the State guest after demitting his office on Wednesday. This was disclosed by Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa and the Minister for Home M. P. Prakash at a high tea hosted by Governor T.N. Chaturvedi at Raj Bhavan in honour of MLCs and other dignitaries on the occasion of the centenary year of the Legislative Council on Tuesday. Mr. Yediyurappa and Mr. Prakash told presspersons that Chief Minister H. D. Kumaraswamy had extended an invitation to Dr. Kalam to that effect. The Government was planning to hold a function in Bangalore to felicitate Dr. Kalam. The Chief Minister would extend a formal invitation on that occasion, they added. Mr. Prakash told The Hindu that the State Government would be pleased to make all arrangements for Dr. Kalam’s stay in Bangalore. The State was home to many premier institutions such as Indian Institute of Science. Dr. Kalam owns a three-bedroom flat at Kendriya Vihar at Yelahanka on the outskirts of Bangalore. If Dr. Kalam accepts the invitation, he would be the third former President to settle in Bangalore as the State guest after V.V. Giri and Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy.
