Kakinada: East Godavari Superintendent of Police Battini Srinivasulu has called for concerted efforts to check trafficking of girls and women. Inaugurating a two-day training classes for police station house officers and station writers on ‘trafficking of girls and women and the provision of the Act to combat the manace’ organised under the joint auspices of AP Police Aacademy (APPA) and the United Nations Office on drugs and crime (UNODC) at the police conference hall here on Monday, he said women were being exploited in many ways and dragged into flesh trade. He called upon the participants to interact with the NGO representatives involved in the sex workers’ rehabilitation and chalk out an action plan on making the district free from trafficking. A.B. Ranga Nath, additional SP, said that correctional homes and rehabilitation centres, though solve the problem to some extent, effective measures were needed to bring about behavioural changes. K. Venkateswera Rao, executive director of ‘Changes’, a non-governmental organisation said the flesh trade should be viewed as a social problem.
