Corrections and clarifications

* The caption of the accompanying (file) photograph in a report “India flies to the top league in aviation” (“Business Review” page, July 23, 2007) was: “Explosive Growth: Flight landing at Chennai airport.” A few readers point out that the aircraft in the picture was not taking off but taxiing on the runway.

* A PTI report “Geet Sethi fails to defend title” (“Sport”, July 23, 2007), on the World Professional Billiards championship at Leeds, stated that Sethi had an unfinished 202 while his opponent England’s Mike Russell had an unfinished 81. A reader wondered whether it was possible for both players to have unfinished breaks. The clarification is that both players had unfinished breaks but in different sessions. Russell got his in the first while Sethi had it in the second.

* A tennis report “Rafael Nadal triumphs” (“Sport”, July 23, 2007) stated that third seed Sania Mirza had to face a third set for the fourth time in as many matches. The agency report got it wrong. Sania won her quarters in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 (at the WTA Western & Southern Financial Group Women’s Open, Cincinnati).

* A report “[Sri Lanka’s Dilhara] Fernando sinks Bangladesh” (“Sport”, July 21, 2007), on the first limited overs international against Bangladesh, stated that Abdur Razzack scored 28, unbeaten, while the scoreboard showed him to be run out. The scoreboard was right.

* In an AP report “[Agriculture scientist] Norman Borlaug feted” (“Newscape” page, July 19, 2007), the Nobel Peace Price should have been the Nobel Peace Prize.
