14 feared drowned as boat overturns

TO SAFER GROUND: People wade through waist deep water seeking a safer place as the flood situation worsened after heavy rain at Jamunapur near Patna, on Tuesday.

PATNA: At least 14 persons were feared drowned when a boat overturned in the Ghogha river near Mamlakha village in Bhagalpur district on Tuesday. The boat was on its way to Lilakh village.

Six members of a Jharkhand Government official’s family and two engineering students were among those missing. Six persons were rescued. Floods continued to affect various parts of the State. Train services remained disrupted in Bhagalpur district. The situation in Patna district was equally bad with the Ganga eroding its bank near Bakhtiarpur and the Punpun braching its embankment and inundating more than 50 villages.

Schools have been closed in several districts .
