NEW DELHI: Former Asian snooker champion Alok Kumar and National pool champion Manan Chandra have joined the race for the lone Indian entry in the carombole event in the 2nd Asian Indoor Games in Macau, China, from October 27 for November 3. With prominent cueists sending in entries, the National one-cushion carombole championship has unexpectedly received an overwhelming response forcing the organisers to extend the event by one day. The Nationals will now be held from July 26 to 31, at the Billiardco Hall, Malviya Nagar. The winner of the National three-cushion championship in 2001, Dharminder Lilly, has been top seeded for the one-cushion Nationals. Manan Chandra, the runner-up to Lilly then, is the second seed and heads the bottom half of the draw. Siddharth Anand and Devender Joshi are the third and fourth seeds respectively. The National championship carries total prize money of Rs. 25,000 with the winner getting richer by Rs. 15,000. The organising secretary and the joint secretary of the Delhi Billiards and Snooker Association (DBSA), Amarjeet Singh, said that the matches will be played on the basis of 60 visits or 150 points, whichever is earlier. — Principal Correspondent
