Alaguraja is winner

Sivakasi: M.K. Alaguraja (5.5 points) won the Sri Kaliswari College Open chess tournament, defeating State under-16 rapid champion P. Shyam Nikil in the last round, at Sri Kaliswari College here on Sunday.

In the under-13 district championship, M.G. Giri Selvam of Jaycees, Sivakasi Matriculation School, was declared champion. He and V.S. Sakthivel Pandian of Sivakasi Lions Matriculation School tied for the first place and Giri Selvam defeated Sakthivel in the play off.

Contrasting wins

At Andipatti, Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti and Mohamed Sathak Engineering College, Kilakarai will clash for the title in the Anna University zone IX inter-engineering college kabaddi tournament. In the semifinals played on Tuesday at the Bharath Niketan College ground, Andipatti, Sethu Institute beat Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering, Karaikudi 60-22, while Mohamed Sathak College had to fight hard before eliminating Shanmuganathan Engineering College, Pudukottai 34-29.
Christhu Raja HSS does well

At Tuticorin, Christhu Raja HSS (Palayamkottai) and Christhu Raja HSS HSS (Palayamkottai) emerged winners in two categories each in boys and girls sections respectively in the Tirunelveli District, Palayamkottai division inter-panchayat union hockey league for SARA Trophy in various grounds at Palayamkottai recently:
