Drug inspector suspended

Staff Reporter

Sequel to unearthing of fake medicines

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government on Tuesday placed a drug inspector of Bolangir district under suspension in wake of unearthing of fake medicine manufacturing unit at Kantabanji.

Drug inspector P. V. Rao was posted at Bolangir. The busting of 10-year-old spurious drug racket had sent shockwaves in Western Orissa region and it was followed by sporadic violence at many places.

That forced the district administration to clamp prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC in four urban centres. Prohibitory orders were relaxed in view of Bahuda Jatra of Lord Jagannath and celebrations passed off peacefully, Bolangir SP Himanshu Lal said.

He said prohibitory orders, however, would remain in force for a day more.

"Once law and order situation gets settled down, we will launch raids on medicine shops and godowns again." Meanwhile, preparations were on to carry out raids on medical shops across the state.
