PUDUKOTTAI: Lack of egg delivery contractors in Pudukottai district has increased the workload of Block Development Officers, noon-meal organisers and anganwadi workers, sources said.
Eggs are delivered by contractors at the doorstep of noon-meal workers and anganwadi centres.
But in Pudukottai district, the system is yet to be introduced. Egg cases brought from wholesale dealers in Namakkal are unloaded at the offices of BDOS for onward distribution to schools and anganwadis. According to Sakthi, Pudukottai district unit president of Tamil Nadu Noon Meal Organisers’ Association, though an allotment of eight paise an egg is made, it is inadequate as the bus crew levy luggage fee apart from fare.
The State general secretary of the association, T.R. Meganathan, says that the Government had issued an order for door delivery system through contractors authorised by Block Development Officers .
An official says that steps would be taken to introduce the contract system in Pudukottai district after verifying the procedure being adopted in other districts.
