Medical counselling peaceful

The process commences with first 1,000 rank holders called to appear at any of the five on-line centres


VISAKHAPATNAM: A total of 110 candidates have taken admissions in various medical colleges in the State on Tuesday, the first day of counselling for admission into medical and dental courses at the Visakhapatnam on-line centre.

The counselling commenced with the first 1,000 rank holders of the Engineering, Medical and Agriculture Common Entrance Test (EAMCET) 2007, having been called to appear at any of the five on-line centres.

At the counselling centre in Visakhapatnam, which was located in the International Studies Centre in Andhra University campus, 117 candidates appeared and 110 took admission in the MBBS course, said Camp Officer of On-line Admissions of AU A. Satyanarayana.

The remaining seven did not get their choice of college and were expected to come later when they would get a chance to get a seat in the college they preferred according to reservation roaster.

Entry restricted

Vice-Chancellor L. Venugopal Reddy formally declared open the admission process. He handed over the admission card to S. Chinnam Naidu and K. Chinna Rao who both secured 27th rank and wished them and other rank holders best of luck.

These two were among the four top 50 rankers who appeared for counselling in Visakhapatnam.

While Chinnam Naidu preferred Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad, Chinna Rao, along with 38th rank holder P. Bhaskara Rao and 43rd rank holder B. Mohan Phani Teja joined in Andhra Medical College here.

The first day’s counselling went off peacefully. Heavy police bandobust was made at the venue.

Entry on the premises was restricted.
