KOCHI: A project on solid waste management involving students initiated by Clarion was launched here on Tuesday. K. Narayanakurup, Chairman of the National Wage Board for Journalists and Non-journalists, inaugurated the project. The organisers said that about 20,000 students would participate in the project. The aim is to spread awareness on waste management in families through students in various schools in Ernakulam district. Students would encourage parents and their community members to set up biogas plants and vermi-compost units for treatment of solid waste. M.L. George, general convener of Clarion, said the Indian Medical Association, the Junior Red Cross and the Parent-Teacher Associations would join hands in the implementation of the project.
