Rs. 713 crore for minor irrigation schemes

BANGALORE: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa on Monday informed the Legislative Assembly that Rs. 713 crore had been earmarked for minor irrigation in 2007-08, up from Rs. 412.93 crore in 2006-07.

Replying to Mallikajuna S. Khooba during question hour, he said the amount would be utilised for lift irrigation projects, revival of tanks and completion of spill-over works from the previous year.

The World Bank-aided Jalasamvardhana project was being implemented in 34 taluks in nine districts to revive 2,005 tanks, he said.

Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar told the House that the Government would constitute an expert committee for the creation of new taluks.

Replying to Shivananda S. Patil (Congress) during question hour, Mr. Shettar said new taluks would be created based on the recommendations made by the expert committee.

No taluk had been formed since Bangalore East taluk was created in 2001, he said.

The Centre had revised the compensation guidelines for houses damaged by rain. Now, the Government would sanction Rs. 12,000 for partially damaged houses and Rs. 25,000 for fully damaged houses, he said.
