CHENNAI: The Pattali Makkal Katchi will continue to perform its democratic duty of highlighting problems and issues concerning the public, S. Ramadoss, founder, said on Tuesday.

“Though we are an ally of the ruling party, we are functioning as a responsible Opposition party. While raising our voice on people’s problems, we are bringing to the notice of the Government lapses perceived by us and pointed out by others,” Dr. Ramadoss said.

He was responding to Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi’s statement on Monday.

Contending that nothing can be cited to show that he and his party had transgressed the limits in their functioning during the tenure of the previous regime and that of the present Government in the last one year, the Pattali Makkal Katchi leader said the Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, being a senior political leader and a democrat, knew well the duties of a political party in a democracy. He also knew well that no party should or could be silenced while carrying out its responsibilities, the leader of the Pattali Makkal Katchi said.

Dr. Ramadoss said he had been commending appreciable aspects of the working of the Government.
