Monica’s release delayed by a day

HYDERABAD: A traffic jam on the main road connecting Chanchalguda Women’s Prison led to a day’s delay in release on bail of former Bollywood starlet Monica Bedi.

Her release follows a Supreme Court directive to the Mumbai Regional Passport Officer to cancel her passport issued in 1999 and ordering the trial court here to release her on bail in the passport forgery case. According to normal procedure, undertrial prisoners are released on bail at 5.30 p.m. after submission of court order. But Monica’s father Prem Kumar Bedi, uncle Purushotham and advocate Pradeep Kumar’s arrival after 6 p.m. put paid to this procedure.
