NEW DELHI: P. Hari Krishna played listlessly against Ukraine’s Pavel Eljanov and crashed to a 38-move defeat in the fourth round of the Montreal International chess tournament in Montreal on Monday. Hari, one of the two overnight leader, mishandled the position in the Slav game and tried to stay alive by sacrificing a rook for a bishop before giving up on the verge of losing a minor piece. Sergei Tiviakov, the other overnight leader, also suffered a loss after facing Gata Kamsky. Vassily Ivanchuk joined Kamksy and Eljanov in the lead by handing out British GM Nigel Short his fourth loss in as many rounds. In the Quebec Open, also in Montreal, Sandipan Chanda held leader Andrey Rychagov in a marathon lasting 86 moves. Earlier, Kunte had drawn with Alexander Huzman in just 15 moves. In the Balaguer Open, at Balaguer (Spain), Indian youngsters hogged the limelight with B. Adhiban showing the way.
