Vasanth, Gopinath and Venugopala hit centuries

Chennai: Jolly Rovers’ S. Vasanth Saravanan, K.H. Gopinath of Indian Bank and Globe Trotters’ Y. Venugopala Rao made hundreds on the first day of the fourth round in the TNCA first division league.

Vasanth Saravanan (104, 187b, 19x4) added 114 for the third wicket in 44.3 overs with opener M. Vijay (57, 171b, 7x4) and 77 for the fourth in 19.3 with Dinesh Mongia (72, 101b, 7x4, 1x6) against holder Vijay at the IIT-Chemplast ground.

Rovers was 266 for six at stumps. For Vijay, left-arm spinner Sree Kumar Nair scalped three batsmen.

Wicket-keeper batsman K.H. Gopinath (153 batting, 264b, 15x4, 2x6) scored his second century of the season as Indian Bank finished the day at 255 for four against Eagle CC at MAC.

Unbeaten century stand

Gopinath and S. Dinesh Kumar (54 batting, 180b, 9x4) have so far added 159 in an unbroken fifth wicket partnership in 55.5 overs. Thanks to their efforts, Indian Bank recovered from 96 for six after Eagle pacemen S. Senthil Kumar and S. Thyagarajan struck early blows.

Venugopala Rao (118 retd hurt, 181b, 14x4, 3x6) put on 134 in 40.3 overs with Sunil Viswanathan (44 batting, 150b, 2x4) before leaving the field due to fitness concerns against IOB at the MRF-Pachaiyappa’s ground.

Valuable contributions

India Pistons, with E. Arun Kumar (69, 257b, 5x4) and R. Srinivasan (82 batting, 204b, 10x4) coming up with valuable contributions, reached 195 for three against Grand Slam at the ICL-Guru Nanak ground. Arun Kumar and R. Srinivasan gathered 133 for the third wicket in 63 overs.

N.S. Kumaraguru (68, 216b, 8x4) and I.K. Rohit (57, 78b, 5x4, 1x6) were among the runs in Parry’s first innings 226 against Alwarpet at the SRMC ground. S. Anand’s 82 (157b, 8x4, 1x6) was instrumental in taking Young Stars to 227 for five against Aruna at the RKM-Viveka ground. Anand and L.N. Prasad Reddy (55 batting, 215b, 3x4) put on 119 for the third wicket in 247 balls.

At ICL-Guru Nanak: India Pistons 195 for three in 91 overs (E. Arun Kumar 69, R. Srinivasan 82 batting) vs Grand Slam.

At SRMC: Parry’s 226 in 83.5 overs (N.S. Kumaraguru 68, I.K. Rohit 57) vs Alwarpet two without loss in four overs.

At IIT-Chemplast: Jolly Rovers 266 for six in 89.3 overs (M. Vijay 57, S. Vasanth Saravanan 104, Dinesh Mongia 72) vs Vijay.

At MAC: Indian Bank 255 for four in 93 overs (K.H. Gopinath 153 batting, S. Dinesh Kumar 54 batting) vs Eagle CC.

At MRF- Pachaiyappa ’s: Globe Trotters 267 for three in 90 overs (Y. Venugopala Rao 118 retd hurt, S. Viswanathan 44 batting) vs IOB.

At Viveka: Young Stars 227 for five (S. Anand 82, L.N. Prasad Reddy 55 batting) vs Aruna.
