In an effort to help the farmers to store their produce during price crash, Rotary Club of Tirupur South has commissioned a cold storage at Uzhavar Santhai (farmers’ market) on Palladam Road here recently. Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy inaugurated the storage plant in the presence of District Rotary Governor L. Narayanasamy and Municipal Chairman K. Selvaraj. According to M. Nachimuthu, regional chairman of Cold Storage Project, the plant has the capacity to store 2.5 tonnes of vegetables and fruit and it costs Rs.2.75 lakh. This will be of much use for farmers to keep their perishable produce for days during the period of price slash. The Government allotted land and agreed to bear electricity charges. Mr. Narayanasamy said f 50 cold storages would be commissioned in Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
