KOCHI: The Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco) has swung into action in the fever-hit districts of Ernakulam, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Idukki distributing free packages of provisions to families of plantation workers, those below poverty line and those who have been identified as deserving by various panchayats in these areas. Supplyco Chairman and Managing Director Yogesh Gupta said that about three lakh packets with seven kg of boiled rice, a kg each of green gram, half-a-kg of sugar, a quarter kg of tea and 100 grams of red chilli were being prepared for distribution in the crisis-hit districts. The process of identification of the beneficiaries was being completed. The packets were being distributed through ration shops using the list prepared by the panchayats, medical and village officers. The distribution of the provisions had been arranged according to the wards to avoid rush. Supplyco received a list of 24,533 persons for distribution of free rations till Tuesday and the corporation had so far readied 1,18,600 kits for distribution. Of these, 37,800 kits would go to Kollam, 17,700 kits to Pathanamthitta, 25,000 kits to Kottayam, 30,600 to Ernakulam and 7,500 to Idukki.
