SALEM: Transport Secretary Debendranath Sarangi has reviewed the progress of various development works being carried out under the Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam (AGAMT) and patta land improvement works in Salem district on Tuesday. He inspected the 34.60-acre land at Periyar Nagar in Azhagapuram Puthur, which was one of the sites proposed for the construction of residential quarters for the railway employees. Families
He asked the officials to initiate steps for alternative arrangements for the 14 families living on the land, if the Railways approved the site for the construction of residential quarters. Later, inspecting a library building constructed in Puliyampatti panchayat under the AGAMT, he directed the officials to buy books and furniture for it immediately. He also saw the road works taken up at the Chikkampatti village in Taramangalam block, a press release said. While inspecting the patta wasteland improvement works at Konagapadi village, Mr. Sarangi asked the farmers to take up cultivation after the completion of works. He instructed the officials to expedite the construction of classroom buildings in K.R. Thoppur Panchayat Union Primary School. A sum of Rs. 6.76 lakh was allotted for the work. He also saw the land improvements works being carried out under the cluster approach. He also reviewed the programmes works such as creation of pond, formation of concrete path and installation of streetlights being taken up in various villages. Mr. Sarangi asked the officials to ensure quality in the execution of development works. District Revenue Officer M. Rajarathinam and senior officials were present during the inspection and went around with the Transport Secretary during his visit.
