Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial “Far-reaching verdict” (July 23). Never in the 60 years of Pakistan’s creation has there been such a decisive verdict as the Supreme Court’s decision to reinstate Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhary. It is a big blow to President Pervez Musharraf. The General should abide by the wishes of the majority and step down as President to avert possible defeat in the presidential election. S. Balusamy, Chennai
Pakistan’s Supreme Court has created history by reversing the decision of a military ruler. Pakistanis can hereafter rest assured that no one can deprive them of their basic rights when there is a powerful judiciary to safeguard them. Abdullah Khan, Hyderabad
The political turmoil and violent clashes gripping Pakistan are cause for concern in India too. They will fuel extremism and insurgent groups will look for safe havens across the border. India’s economic growth will get affected. The decline in Gen. Musharraf’s ability to strike a deal with India on issues such as Kashmir is the fallout of the unrest in Pakistan. Krutarth Amish Vasavada, Secunderabad
