This refers to the report that a soldier posted in Kashmir killed his officer on Tuesday. The 60th distress death of the year clearly points to the deterioration in military discipline. The Indian army was one of the most disciplined forces in the world. The policies followed by the top brass have eroded the environment of dedication and discipline. Psychologists and sociologists cannot solve the problem of indiscipline creeping into the force. Misplaced sympathy is encouraging many to take the risk of venting their anger over perceived grievances on their superiors. Strict discipline should be imposed on all ranks.
