Three killed in Kashmir gun battle

Srinagar: A militant and a special police officer were among three persons killed in a 20-hour long gun battle in Baramulla district, officials said on Wednesday. The third person killed was a teenager.

The gun battle broke out last evening when police assisted by troops of Rashtriya Rifles launched a search operation at Nadihal village. An operation is on to nab a militant who is believed to be hiding in the area and offering resistance, officials said. The murdered SPO was identified as Waheed, they said adding Tariq Ahmad (16) was killed when he was hit by a stray bullet. He was hit by the bullet last night and succumbed while being taken to a hospital. —PTI
