Time now for some monsoon music

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Banyan Tree Events is hosting the All-India Barkha Ritu Rains and Ragas-2007 festival at Kamani Auditorium here this Friday. It will feature Shivkumar Sharma on the santoor while Chhannulal Mishra will give a vocal rendition.

A one-of-a-kind presentation of Indian classical music, the festival celebrates the beauty of the monsoon and the feelings it evokes. Described as the biggest all-India monsoon classical music festival, Barkha Ritu Rains and Ragas-2007 is also being held in other Indian cities.

Eminent musicians to play

Some of the who’s who of Hindustani classical musicians like Hariprasad Chaurasia, Satyasheel Deshpande, Bhavani Shankar, Chhanulal Mishra, Rashid Khan, Shivkumar Sharma and Vishwa Mohan Bhatt will create the magic of monsoon melodies in their own inimitable styles.

The purpose behind the festival is to take a few fleeting moments of music lovers to revel in and experience the rich bounty of Indian classical music. The festival is the brainchild of Mahesh Babu, director of Banyan Tree Events, a premier cultural organisation that specialises in traditional, rare and popular Indian performing arts (both music and dance) across the country, featuring the best of geniuses from India and abroad.
