Efforts to enhance quality of life of weaker sections

TEACHING VALUES: Young girls attending ‘Tirukkural’ class in Pudukottai.

PUDUKOTTAI: The act of sensitising the upcoming generation to the richness of the country’s past is a service in itself.

The Rotaract Club of Pudukottai has started giving a fillip to the Rotary Movement to enhance the quality of life of the weaker sections of the society through implementing useful projects and creating the infrastructure that meets the basic requirements.

Through imparting training in ‘Tirukkural’ to young boys and girls in the age group of 15 years with the assistance of the Kural Neri Payilagam, a unit of the Ambika Educational Trust, the Rotaract Club is seeking to fulfil the objective of popularising the pearls of wisdom among the common people in general and the younger generation in particular.

Sixty participating teenagers are encouraged to imbibe the principles through distribution of free ‘Tirukkural.’

A majority is from Kamarajapuram Municipal School.

The classes are conducted for an hour on Sundays by Chandra Ravindran, the convener of Kural Neri Payilagam and other trainers. The organisers are keen on honouring with special awards the participants who register cent per cent attendance, and certificates to all.

The badges that the students wear help them identify themselves more with the nobility of the service.

The classes were inaugurated at a function held at the Bhuvaneshwari Seva Maiyam Hall recently. The president of Rotaract Club of Pudukottai, R. Pandian, presided over the function. The former president Thiagarajan; and Seva Maiyam Members, including Mani, offered felicitations.
