KORAPUT: Koraput Chemist & Druggist Association, with its members spread over Koraput , Nowrangpur and Malkangiri districts, threatened to go on strike (both retail and wholesale outlets) in these districts if the authorities did not pay attention to their grievances, Kaliprasad Pattnaik, secretary of the association, said at Jeypore on Wednesday. While appreciating the move to raid shops and other establishments to unearth spurious drugs, Mr. Pattnaik alleged that the teams conducting raids had no person technically qualified to test the genuineness of medicines. Further, he regretted the observations made by some medicos engaged in the raids that the drugs were of inferior quality even before testing them in laboratories. Such remarks led to suspicion among people over genuine drugs too, he said. Harassment alleged
Reports of customers harassing retail shop owners were disturbing, he said, adding that the attitude of the police in different parts of these districts was also not encouraging. Mohd. Mozamil, owner of Greenland Medical Store at Papadahandi in Nowrangpur district, complained of ill-treatment by the police. The police, who were reportedly moving about with a magistrate, allegedly entered the house of Mr. Mozamil and locked up the shop. The association urged district Collectors and SPs of these districts to intervene and ensure that the raids were conducted in a proper manner.
